Infidemia Development Update

well

i guess that “Infidemia” is going to continue development, because i have been working on a new version of the plot, battle system, and even adding map designs…

I prefer not to share screenshots or any evidence that Infidemia exists because of reasons though I was considering showing an example of the battle flow in the game.

I won’t get too in-depth about mechanics here, though I made the combo system a little bit easier to tell what’s going on (you can now track combo levels during the battle, which means you know how many turns each character has), and I was considering adding multiple stages of ultimate abilities in the game.

Because the story had to be restarted, the plot’s going to go in a different direction and I might limit myself to only telling the story within one area the game takes place in. While that’s more boring than what I wanted to do originally, it helps me maintain scope and keep the map design manageable, as well as making it easier for the player to navigate a smaller in-game world.

I will probably add more areas from later in the game eventually, though after a breakthrough in figuring out how to fix the story and motivation to fix the combo system, things might go better.

I’m still revising the main battle theme, though my priority right now is getting the story ready to a point where things are looking playable.

This game has been in development since late 2019, so, I guess it’s been through at least a year of development by now, though, my usual timeline is one hour of work on the game per month. (Game development is not considered my job.)

If I were a full-time independent developer, you’d probably see a demo here by now and tons of screenshots, though, you would still see posts here where I randomly give up on the project only to talk about it again.

I’ll try to think twice before I post updates about the game from now on.

Well, I suppose that’s all there is to mention.

It’s kind of a personal game for me to talk about because there are some elements in which I wanted to talk about… personal stuff… though that’s another excuse for me to talk vaguely about it. After all, the base plot for the story was based on a series of 14 dreams I had that were all telling a story together, and that kind of thing is not something I’d randomly post to the Internet. (Though I did, and it is the kind of thing I’d randomly post to the Internet, because this is my blog, and I can be really random sometimes.) At least… not something I’d mention without giving context to the game.

Surprisingly, a lot has stayed the same in development.

The seven main characters (who you play as a group and individually at various points in the story) have stayed the same, although their dialogues and personalities have changed along the way, as they’re supposed to be dynamic characters while you’re playing the game. There is one character who you begin the game as and they don’t have any dialogue, but, I wouldn’t really consider them the “main” character. Part of the story involves them, but, in their own story, they meet six other characters and each one of them has additional stories, so maybe this character is the “protagonist” because you make choices for them, but, there are seven main characters. Maybe there is one character who you decide choices for, but, I’m not willing to give away the entire plot right now.

Part of the plot’s themes have stayed the same, but how I’m dealing with them has changed. I’m not sure who the audience of the game would be, though I’m making it a game that I find interesting, and if anyone plays it then they’re the audience and hopefully they’ll find it interesting. If someone plays it and they don’t like the game, that’s fine too, although I just hope that anyone who plays the game enjoys it. I’m not sure if “enjoy” would be the right word for this game, though based on how things go in the game I think it was the right word to use.

Oh, yeah, the final boss for the game has been constantly changing… There are at least four times as many “final bosses” as there were when I started planning, and now that means that most of the final bosses are just regular bosses. Every boss fight is supposed to have a different main mechanic that you use, maybe it’s one of the combat system techniques, something that you’re told about early on in the game or towards the end.

The music for the game has been… tricky to work on.

I’ll end up making everything consistent later, though it’s just… tricky… because there’s not a consistent feel to this game.

I tried to make “Infidemia” feel like playing another game that I played, though going for that atmosphere felt like the game just wasn’t suited to that.

The feel of the game now is supposed to be, at least, how I put it, “intense, like every decision you make in the game world might do something, with some uncertainty, though you know that you have a potential to change the game world.”

For the game’s difficulty level, I’m trying to focus on making the puzzles and the battles the hardest parts of the game. Doing multiple battles in a row when you’re stuck at low health isn’t something I’m going for, because each battle is supposed to have its own difficulty, and instead of getting a game over for a boss fight and starting over at your last save file, you’ll have to listen to the introduction dialogue again, reset some things, and the only punishment there is just having to start over, though you still get a chance to save your game if you decide to stop playing or need to exit the dungeon.

Oh, yeah, and I’ve purposely added punishing battle rewards… that’s right, battles aren’t exactly rewarding all the time. I’ve found ways to figure this out, and it’s not exactly with cursed items that you get or anything, it’s more that… …hmm, might spoil something.

There are rewards and stuff in the game, though balancing rewards with difficulty has been tricky because I have to balance the multiple ways to play the game which makes it harder to decide the balance…

…To effectively do this, I decide the balance in the game is how long something takes in a battle, if we’re talking about the combat system. Trying to make multiple things take up the same amount of turns or the same amount of time is all I’m doing – maybe there’s an ultimate attack, though you’d have to go through a certain amount of turns first – though it’s a design mechanic I personally find useful for turn-based role playing games.

And about the music, I considered adding character themes, and then a battle theme for each character, though… …I was mostly concerned with “who would have the better theme” and decided that because favoritism might get in the way (as a developer, though, each character has been interesting to work on and I can’t decide a favorite character. That’s probably why each character has stayed throughout the whole game and there are only seven characters who have been the same characters when they were added… …of course, their personalities change and I self-insert dialogue at various points for each character, though they’re all easy for me to remember, still relevant to the story, and still challenging to write dialogue for.) If there were character themes and battle themes, oh, wait, there’s one midboss who actually has a character theme… …whoops… …I’d probably say that each theme would have been combined to create a final boss fight theme where the music for that fight is literally just the final battle theme as it’s all the protagonists working together…).

Oh, also…

…there are some references to things like Capsule Dragons, Super Speedy Laser Cats, and more, though I’ll leave those for the player to discover.

I hope this was interesting.

I’m not sure why I still want to work on this game, after repeatedly claiming to delay it (don’t worry – my game development is based entirely on my mood! well, not entirely, but, there are implications for whatever I’m writing here based on my mood). I think it’s been good to continue working on. I’m glad to work on the game and I find it interesting, so, maybe I shouldn’t have asked that question 🤔.

In my opinion, this has been the most interesting game for me to work on, and I would like to continue it.

To be honest, there have been delays, but, mostly just for things like the art and animation, because I still have to learn about that.

Anyway, thanks for reading this.

It was a longer article than usual and I hope it provided entertainment value. Maybe some value for learning about my development plan, as well.

Remember when I posted “Infidemia’s not delayed” and then immediately posted “Infidemia’s delayed forever”?

This is another one of those cases where I’ll be posting updates based on fluctuations in mood.

For now, I’ll try to become more aware of my mood while I’m writing or doing anything, and I’ll try to post updates that are somewhat useful and indicative of development progress.

also, since you have read this far…

…there is a secret, hidden character, who you can only unlock by following these rumors that I made up:

(Secret rumors not found. Please try again later.)

Oh, looks like that wasn’t working. Hmm… I wonder how much save file editing would be required for secret characters to be added in?

oh, also, I’ll stop using the keywords/tags feature on this website. I don’t want to wrongly inform anyone that this website is more than just being a blog.

Infidemia’s Infinite Delay

Hi there

today I’m here to announce the infinitely infinite delay on Infidemia.

Due to some issues in development, I will likely come back to this in an alternate timeline.

For now, here’s what development looks like:

[Planning Process] –> Complete. Story, characters, all bosses, main gameplay mechanics, done. Every revision is mostly consistent, with some features being redone upon each development cycle.

[Combat System] –> what…? I have redone the combat system at least once for each development cycle. The only things that have stayed the same are the usage of some dialogue-based actions, and combo-based ultimate attacks.

[Map Design] –> Upon my most recent revision of the game, I’ve started redoing map design for overworld areas (outdoors mostly). I designed a full dungeon for use as a tutorial within the story, but now it’s an optional area you can go to at any time, with the story content removed. Most maps have stayed consistent, and so far the game takes place within one city that was not meant to be as large as it is, but, considering how much story goes on there… …maps will likely remain boring and repetitive. I was hoping to go for a more diverse set of landscapes across multiple environments, though I was planning to do that for another game and Infidemia was sort of like that game to begin with, so, map design is a bit tricky here. Dungeons and puzzles take the most time to make.

[Story] –> A combination of pretty much everything… the game itself… is the story.

[Dialogue] –> Dialogue is revised even during writing “finalized” dialogue. The game also has to account for alternate dialogue (sometimes I like to use my alternate revisions for alternate dialogue) based on some specific things (or not so specific… I wanted to keep this a development secret, though players will likely discover this anyway, so…). Rewriting dialogue and writing dialogue in the first place takes probably the most time to do, because I also have to work on the next thing, eventing.

[Eventing] –> Making events that move the player, transition between rooms, characters with icons over their heads as reactions, dialogue, adding character portraits next to dialogue boxes, showing different versions of dialogue boxes… …it’s actually really fast because I’m using an engine that I’m used to developing in and requires minimal programming on my part, though it just takes time, because of the next thing, bugfixing.

[Bugfixing & Playtests] –> This game is probably the glitchiest I have ever played. I played a 3D platformer game and liked how the glitches could be used as mechanics (then, when I actually played the game, I complained about everything being broken… …and sometimes used the glitches to cheat, though sometimes accidental cheating is possible, and… yeah, an option to turn all the glitches in the game on or off would have been fun, but, that’s not how it works.) Unfortunately, Infidemia’s mechanics of characters staring into walls, jumping on tables, sliding (moving across the screen while looking frozen), battles with broken dialogue or with various other game-breaking things that literally make the game unplayable (sometimes failing to load a resource), which can all freeze the game. By playtesting, I’ve been able to fix many bugs, add new quality changes, and test things out on paper before I playtest the game to make sure eventing works right, and, although it takes more time, the game is slightly… slightly getting there. To being less buggy (sort of). I’ve kept records of every glitch and bug in the game, mostly as video captures, and intend to create a compilation later.

[Battle Eventing] –> Sort of like dialogue + eventing + combat system. Every battle requires some eventing from me, though boss fights require a lot more (only the tutorial boss is fully evented) and the game’s battle eventing is why battles are currently unplayable. Sometimes story is done through battle eventing, though this is mostly just to use the dialogue-based mechanics that you can use during battle.

[Development Cycle] –> Everything noted above is part of one development cycle. Infidemia’s development cycle goes from a loop of this (to whatever part of the story. One version of the game is at the beginning with a few minutes of gameplay, another is all the way until the next chapter, and one is halfway through a chapter, while another is stuck at a boss fight… actually, that’s the one until the next chapter…) until I decide to restart development (keeping the resources I used/made before, often restarting all dialogue and eventing though, except for map design travel events that swap the player’s location). The game has gone through multiple development cycles so far and none of them are past the prototype stage. I will be pausing development until my mindset improves enough to actually go with something I have started and not restart it for each time I notice something went wrong.

I have a demo version of the game that is [sort of] ready, and will probably release it within the next 10 years.

Thank you for your interest and support,

-ZoruaAl

Oh, yeah, forgot to mention…

Infidemia’s still being developed right now.

I just don’t know when I’ll be done.

I hope to get the main battle theme redone soon also.

I worked on doing custom instruments for the main battle theme for a month, though was unhappy with it every time, so, might redo everything for music as well, at least, everything for main battle music.

Please note that I am inexperienced when it comes to making games and even if/when I finish Infidemia, it will likely be a very low quality game with badly scripted dialogue, a boring combat system, and the worst story ever made. I am expecting to make a terrible game because of reasons and because I know I’m overambitious. The game might be two hours long, but, after only having less than two minutes completed across one year of development, I will likely return to the project in an alternate timeline.

Thanks for reading this, though.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Thank you for your understanding about the lack of professional journalism. This is a blog and not meant to be a reputable news source.

Hello, Capsule Dragons website readers,

Today is a holiday that celebrates and honors the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who had a legacy of fighting against systemic injustice, bringing people together, and taking action to establish social equity (changes that would benefit racial equity and individual rights), economic equity, and I am going to talk a bit here about why I believe this holiday is important, and still today, as well.

In the 1960s, in the United States, there were many civil rights movements going on, which all had a common goal of fixing the issue of a system that had constantly been harming minority groups, which is still a present-day issue. Today, there’s still a system in the United States that does not respect individuals for who they are and for what they have faced, a system that tells the majority to continue oppressing, and a system that tells the minority to stay oppressed.

This is why MLK Day is important to me, because it recognizes the work of more than half a century ago when social activism was beginning to influence the United States, although it also recognizes that there is still a lot of work left unfinished that we must contribute to today to prevent history from repeating itself, and to also fix this harmful cycle of injustice that plagues the United States… …And internationally, across the world, there are protests going on, there is injustice, but, there can still be progress, as long as people continue to support social activism and get involved.

Some companies claim to be supporting social activism by putting out a message on a social media that they stand up for communities that face this injustice, however, a lot of companies that have done this are actually ones that have been continuing to harm underrepresented communities. Not all companies are “evil”, and not all are “good”, but, the systems in place treat the concept of a company in the US as being higher than a person, allowing companies to create more oppression or create more change… …there are companies that were founded upon beliefs of being able to fix issues with companies as well, and some companies that are founded upon beliefs of supporting injustice have been starting to slightly change as well, so, there is still some hope.

Being someone who has the privilege of not relating to or facing systemic injustice is something I am aware of, and that is why I have focused more on getting people to know about injustices going on, especially when people in my position are mostly ignorant, and when I had been ignorant before, I’ve noticed that there are things I can do to make a difference, trying to get more people who are given too much power to understand why they need to stop supporting systemic oppression, to understand the histories of underrepresented people, understanding both their accomplishments (often these accomplishments are removed from history, but, they are still possible to find and learn about) and what they had to face and why.

I’ve heard of the concept of virtue signaling before and it’s not a concept to follow on this website, any company, though it’s still one I would like to address.

The Capsule Dragons website is not a website for social activism, change, or oppression. It’s just a blog about random games that I work on and it was never founded with the idea of being a suitable place to discuss things that I feel are relevant. It’s not like someone who plays a Capsule Dragons game is magically contributing to justice at the same time, and even if there was a donate button to a charity or movement for justice, those monetary donations would not be recognized by enough people to make a significant economic difference. I’ve noticed that by writing articles about my opinions of things going on, there may be the slight misunderstanding that I am actively involved in supporting justice and social change. The truth is, I’m not doing anything at all, and I can’t accomplish anything by writing these articles on a blog that people might accidentally know of because they wanted to hear about science or popular culture.

However, as a blog, I like to take time to discuss things that I feel are important to mention on a blog and mention my opinions and discussions about. These articles aren’t going to contribute anything to social change, however, my goal is to inform, even if I’m really bad at it.

I am using this post as a place to summarize what I have learned about the legacy of MLK Jr. and to talk about something that I feel is relevant. That is all.

I will try to get more involved in supporting social change, but, just realize that I am not doing anything to help anyone right now and it is better to consider me an ignorant person doing nothing rather than how I may have portrayed myself through these posts.

taking an aside about ignorance, I’ve noticed that there isn’t really a such thing as “innocence” when it comes to being innocent about issues going on, or other similar examples, like not knowing of injustice, or having the idea that everything is currently fair and just in this world and nothing needs to be done (why would someone think that, though – although I disagree with the world being okay right now, I would like to know why this approach is considered.), all of those things that I used to define “innocence” are actually “ignorance”, therefore, it’s my opinion that innocence does not exist, but ignorance does, and it is often confused for innocence.

In my opinion, there’s no reason to censor out any descriptions of anything harmful going on in a news article or to write everything in a positive, happy mood, as the importance of what’s going on is lost, and replaced with a false understanding that nothing bad is going on.

Even if the truth is hard to admit or it is not what you want to hear, it’s better to know of it than to ignore it. This article has some inconsistencies in it that continue to hide truth and I’d like to acknowledge that before uploading it, because, as I said, while these are opinions I’m talking about, I’m not a reputable source of facts. (Unless we’re talking about my game development posts, those might be reputable if you want to know about how my games are going.)

Imagining the idea of if children should be exposed to hearing about injustices in the world, I think that it’s important that children face truth rather than living without knowing it, because there are children who face these issues at young ages that many children simply don’t know of because of whatever reason, though having an approach where difficult truths are accounted for is important in my opinion as it might lead to more growth and understanding.

A fear of knowing the truth is often what creates ignorance as well, and it’s what also leads to histories being incomplete, leaving out details, and it feels incomplete.

Overall, I’ve messed up quite a bit on this website and I want to at least admit it. Trying to seek forgiveness for the incomplete understandings and assumptions that plague this website would be a foolish task, as it would not undo the harm in the past that this has already created. I can’t use a magical item of justice to instantly say that what I did was okay, because it was not okay, and there’s no reason to be forgiven for something that I can’t be forgiven for as it was unjustified. Trying to say that Capsule Dragons is a website talking about news that people might not know about would be as foolish as making an official news article about an event without being present at that event or even learning about it. I personally do not think highly of myself and do not mind extending my self-criticism sections of this website to however long I see fit, however the statement I made about being a self-deprecating person who sometimes works on games is at least a true one.

The reason the Capsule Dragons’ website’s tagline was changed was because that tagline was literally just virtue signaling the whole website as if it were about that.

No, this website is not about social justice, and I cannot claim it is.

It has a few opinion pieces where I talk about my opinion that things should change, because I believe that, but, it is unfair to label the whole website as that.

I searched up my own website and saw that the tagline was right next to the website name, which resulted in a prompt removal of that tagline that portrayed the website incorrectly.

This website has some serious issues (and really buggy ones, like the “âš Not secure” sign) that I am trying to fix a little bit at a time, or, whenever I make a post here.

This page did not appear as the primary section of the “Main Page” because it would be unfair to the reader to have a page filled with all this text but it would also be unfair to make the first thing the reader views be something that may be misunderstood as an attempt to make the whole website seem this way.

I will be changing the “Main Page” to describe the website and link to an about page and pages about recent projects, however, I will make sure to keep sharing my opinions, because this is a blog and I’m not sure where else I should share my opinions on.

You might have noticed that I frequently talk about the United States. That is where my Scratch account talks about the location of where ZoruaAl supposedly resides, so I find it suitable to discuss my opinion of that country.

Because I do not have a personal life to talk about my opinions of on this website, I focus on just talking about my opinions of how society’s doing in the United States (by the way: masking up is important! the pandemic is still going on, it’s possible to help each other by staying safe). It would be fun to have a personal life to talk about, but, because I don’t, I prefer to just talk about things that I feel might be important to share my opinions about because somehow I think that for some reason I might should do that.

Maybe I do have a personal life, but that’s mostly just working on games and you already might have heard of that (even from this article, where I refer to myself as someone who makes games). Game development is not my job so I call myself “an independent video game developer in my free time”. I personally believe that my opinions have more relevance than how far I am in a video game I am playing.

it is also my opinion that whomever read all of this was interested and thanks for reading (regardless of my opinion).

For now, I’ll probably be updating the website a little bit, though I don’t have a schedule of when I update this website. sorry about that

Why?

Disclaimer: This is an opinionated post that does not take any time to analyze the issue, and I strongly advise in finding accurate sources from multiple opinions to take your own perspective on the issue. Please note that this is not a proper news source and should not be used as such.

A lot of recent news in the past few days has been discussed, and I would like to ask a question, somewhat relating to what I heard about, after checking my information…

Why?

In all of the delusional comments that have led people to a riot for an unjust cause, why would someone immediately follow what they were told by someone who’s just trying to control them?

Why would anyone, or a group, join for an unjust cause that they might not actually believe in if they had more details from different perspectives?

There’s a difference between protesting, rioting, activism, and anti-activism. There are actually a lot of differences.

Protesting, regardless of what you’re protesting for or against, is generally a nonviolent, peaceful way to get an argument across.

Rioting is different, because while some people may be interested in a cause, it’s mostly used to create violence, or to continue conflict, and the difference is that the true intent is gone.

Then, there’s activism and anti-activism. Activism is about supporting change for something usually beneficial (for instance, individual rights, equitable change, etc.). Anti-activism is usually created by false assumptions about activism and often tries to undo beneficial change, as we’ve seen recently…

…It also depends on what someone is advocating for or against and why they are doing that. This is why false assumptions that all protests are bad are made, and also why activism and anti-activism are used instead of just using only activism.

It’s disheartening to see what was once considered dystopian become reality, but, this was predicted to some extent, as well.

People following a path they are told to just because they believe any one thing might be true… …but, why not first research what you’re getting yourself into, regardless of if you think it’s good or bad?

I was doing some research about topics myself, though I only had a good understanding when I found multiple perspectives – not just one in support or one against.

I feel that if more people did that about something like what recently happened, instead of following a path without questioning it, they’d be able to find out it was a delusion after all.

This is just my question and commentary, and it’s not politicalized or turned into a “good versus bad” issue.

A few years ago, or maybe about 6 years ago, I heard someone talking about a lot of things I didn’t understand or hear of before, agreeing with anything they said, pretending to know what was being talked about.

After looking up what those topics really were, I found it best to question anything the first time if I don’t know, because it turns out these were similarly sadistic things that the person was talking about.

On the other hand, there have been a lot of people who have inspired me to open my perspective more, and even for something like this, I was able to try and see other sides of the issue, and was able to think of a more universal question, “Why?”.

There are a lot of questions that have multiple answers, from different sources, and it’s important to have good research habits to figure out what’s reputable, and what’s not. Finding multiple reputable sources about anything is always a good idea, and it just takes a bit more time, but, from there it’s possible to find the truth, only by examining everything that claims to be the truth. Sometimes there are half-truths, but, always question whatever it is and try to find the answer yourself.

Even from this page that I wrote, there’s a lot of missing information, though I may have left that out on purpose, to ask more of a question to lead to further discussion about what’s going on.

And the pandemic’s still going on, in a lot of places around the world, and where recent events have happened, too.

Well…

Thanks for reading this, and I hope you have a nice day.

Capsule Dragons turns another year old… 2020 edition

Well, I’m not sure myself how many years it’s been since the first Capsule Dragons game came out… Oh… it came out in 2013..? (according to the time it was shared on scratch.mit.edu ) Well… that’s 7 years, then, and Capsule Dragons Adventure hasn’t been worked on in at least one fourth of that time.

2020’s been a tough year, with issues in the COVID-19 pandemic, politics, economics, and the year’s almost going to be over, but, there’s still hope for things to get better.

2020’s also been a year with a larger interest in gaming, whether you’re playing video games, board and card games, or anything, and if you’re interested in any games I made, there are a few that I linked to on this website. (I still have a lot to learn… I should focus on quality in games)

I also announced Infidemia this year, which does not have a release date planned yet (I intend to finish the game, but I don’t know when it will be done. It’s taken a year to do planning, some music, and some development within the game creation software I’m using.). Infidemia’s a different style of game than the Capsule Dragons series, though I’ve been spending most of my time on role playing game development… …though the scope of this game is a bit much to handle right now and I’ve been taking a break to work on other side-projects.

The Capsule Dragons series will get some references of it in Infidemia, perhaps you can throw a capsule with a dragon inside of it to summon a dragon into battle? 🤔

Capsule Dragons Adventure will be delayed until I decide to work on it again. Super Speedy Laser Cats, a multiplayer platformer battle game, is a more current game for me to work on and I still have interest in resuming development on it, and there are a few other tech demos I’ve worked on a little bit, so even if I’m not posting anything here I’m likely doing something.

The latest updates for Infidemia are the new music additions (would like feedback on anything in the game though, including music!) along with a test of building it for other platforms (mobile) and so far I’ve been able to get decent framerates on a phone that launched in 2013 (coincidentally to Capsule Dragons’ year of release…) which I am using as a test to make sure this game can run on any mobile device released in the past 7 years (or with similar specifications) if the game is hypothetically released on mobile. Based on the lag that happens when the dialogue text box sound effect plays (it can be turned off, so maybe keeping the sound off on mobile would work? other issues with lag might be present), Infidemia will likely be a game that’s only available on the platform I’m currently developing it for now.

Infidemia’s also going to get new accessibility options, which will be interesting to work on and I’ll ask for input on what I should do to make it more accessible through feedback forms. Some of the planned features include audio/visual/rumble (all three) cues for everything (this is enabled by default, but, if you want to change that you’ll be able to. There are some timing-based parts of the game that I want to be accessible, and I’ve tested playing the game without seeing or hearing it in those parts to make sure it’s possible.) while getting screen reader support would be useful and having an option to play the game using one button will be available (this will involve a lot of programming and customizing, but, it will be fun to work on). There will be more options like adjusting visual effects in the game (turning off screen flash, for instance, or adjusting colors of the game for color-matching puzzles and/or attack cues) though I’m still working on a list of what I need to add for accessibility features before I start adding them.

Infidemia’s story is still being planned so I don’t want to share any details yet, though there are seven playable characters and some amount of chapters I haven’t decided on.

On terms of gameplay, it’s a turn-based RPG (role playing game) with mechanics focusing around a system where the player’s party can gain more turns during battle, and some more features that I’ve been working on since development started like having dialogue response options or being able to talk during combat. There’s also a “coffee time” feature in the game that allows you to increase your friendship levels with any playable character, so I hope players will enjoy getting to know the cast of Infidemia.

Another core feature of Infidemia is that… you don’t have to follow the story. There’s a school in the game, but, what would happen if you didn’t go there? What would happen if you were able to enter a top-secret company facility before the story led you there? What if you get a legendary sword and sell it to someone? Exploring the “what-ifs” of a game has been an idea I wanted to explore in Infidemia, and it might make for interesting playthroughs or combinations of things the player did differently.

The difficulty level of the game hasn’t been decided, though you can save the game anywhere (except for some areas where saving might get you stuck), and you’ll also get multiple save files, so, if you mess up part of a playthrough or want to try something different, the option’s there. (Or if multiple people are playing the game, each player could use their own save file).

Well… what about Capsule Dragons?

The series had a really rough start… …I made the first game when I was learning how to use Scratch, a programming environment (see the website scratch.mit.edu – it’s free software you can check out on their official website, by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab).

Since then, I’ve had an interest in learning how to program, design games, game mechanics, draw, work on music and sound effects, and my interest for game development has continued, to the point where I’m researching the games industry, and technology behind games.

Starting off with a platformer game made in one month wasn’t the beginning, though it was a good way for me to start experimenting with game design and Scratch, which I still use for side projects and prototypes. Looking at Capsule Dragons (2013) to Capsule Dragons HD (2019), there’s more quality and progress, but, it wasn’t a change made in one day. I’ve posted a lot of projects on my Scratch account (see ZoruaAl on Scratch ) and a lot of them could use more quality, but, it’s still fun to look through what I’ve been doing… …before I started posting my comments on real world events, I made a Scratch project that had a goal to promote equality, which could have been reviewed first to make sure it got the idea across well (which, being honest, I think it could have been done better).

Before this website, I made a few Scratch projects that had some news announcements of whatever project I was working on at the time or had thought of while working on it, and those could use more work as well, but, now I write an informal blog about anything I want to discuss here – games, news, personal life – and this website hasn’t always started off well, either.

Capsule Dragons definitely had a rough start for more reasons – I looked back on the series and realized that some things in the games are offensive though I didn’t realize at the first time, like the original name for the purple enemies you encounter in the first game, so I’ll rename the enemies to a more suitable (and more creative) name. While the intention was not offensive, I think that it’s best to re-evaluate things like these anyway, and acknowledge that things like these should change.

Looking at the newer Capsule Dragons games, I think Adventure had a lot of potential when I was interested in it… …I really want to add mechanics from the Capsule Dragons 4 demo (I think I finished Capsule Dragons 4, though it wasn’t released… it had abilities the player could use, pseudo-3D rendering of levels, and more 2D platforming mechanics in general) and there’s always a chance to improve on something. Actually… that would be fun to add backflips, limited flight time, attacks, and abilities the player can choose… …maybe I’ll just combine both games’ mechanics?

Also… Capsule Dragons 4 was further along in development in 2017… so, it’s been three years since a main entry in the series has been released (except for Capsule Dragons HD, which is kind of remaking the first game). Still… Capsule Dragons 4 had some potential, too, while Capsule Dragons 3 was an unfinished game…

Actually, let’s look at every finished (cancelled games will be discussed later, including a Capsule Dragons strategy game!) Capsule Dragons game:

  1. Capsule Dragons ver 1.1

The original Capsule Dragons game! Play as a few dragons named after various colors (with the exception of Icey, Thunder, and Dark Dragon, who are named after elemental attributes like ice and darkness magic). Print out a capsule from the website and then scan it in the game using your webcam, and you can play as a dragon with the matching color capsule. Depending on if you play as Red, Pink, or Icey, you’ll have to save different Capsule Dragons and protect the Pacific Oceanworld from the power of Dark Dragon… explore five chapters and a bonus training center!

2. Capsule Dragons 2- Dark Dragon’s Return

The sequel to Capsule Dragons! Play as more characters this time, get a daily level up capsule, and explore new content after clearing the game. New characters include Purple, who can summon a shopping bag, CD, who wields a fiery wrench, and Candy, who summons candy to instantly attack all enemies on-screen. While there isn’t too much entirely new content, consider this game a remix of the first one, or maybe an enhanced version of Capsule Dragons 1! Fight new robotic foes as well!

3. Capsule Dragons DX The Rise of Sparkideon

The third game in the series, taking a more deluxe approach with an update the February after the game launched, and two new expansions to new areas you can go to after clearing the game! Play as a Custom Dragon, Dark Dragon, any of the three other Capsule Dragons from previous games (Blue, Thunder, Master Green) as well as a new golden dragon called Goldite! Defeat the evil forces of Sparkideon, a thunder/light magic dragon, and her minions! Customize your Custom Dragon and use the abilities of a new hero! Explore even more endgame content and even two free expansions, added in updates! Can you stop Sparkideon from turning the Pacific Oceanworld into Sparkideon’s Dimension? (note: a side project, called Capsule Dragons Ray, may also be supported. that project released in January 2015.)

4. Capsule Dragons 3

A space exploration game focusing on randomized content, with a fake loading screen, VMS (forgot what it stands for… visual memory system? wait, isn’t that copyrighted?), support for free printable paper figurines called ziinos, and meet new allies Tech and Micro as you explore space, looking for the Delta Emerald! Explore an infinite realm of space with randomly placed planets, fighting other spaceships along the way! Create your own Capsule Dragon and spaceship.

5. Capsule Dragons 4 THE NEW HERO

While this wasn’t really a finished Capsule Dragons game, the player has the ability to backflip, fly for a limited amount of time, wall-jump, equip various abilities, customize their dragon with hats and outfits, and explore randomly placed levels in a 2D platforming game with a physics engine from another Scratch project! It was supposed to come out in 2018, but… what about Capsule Dragons Adventure? Isn’t that part of the main series..??? And, what happened to Capsule Dragons Universe?

Capsule Dragons 4 does count as a cancelled game, though… it’s been mentioned, so, onto the Capsule Dragons sidegames before we get to the cancelled games!

Sidegames: (including cancelled sidegames)

  1. Capsule Dragons EXE village!

Build homes for Capsule Dragons as they move across the screen. Place executable housing plan files to add homes for the Capsule Dragons. Watch the houses autonomously build and the dragons living within the digital world. The first sidegame released after the first game.

2. Capsule Dragons Red Dragon / Blue Dragon

Click a capsule with a red or blue dragon (depending on which version you’re playing) and watch it float on the screen, moving towards your mouse pointer on the screen. Released a month before the first Capsule Dragons game, this was the concept of dragons inside capsules… that would later guide the rest of the series. The designs of the dragons are different from the first game as well, so if you want to see a Capsule Dragon with a fiery tail, this is the sidegame to see!

3. Capsule Dragons Club

While not exactly a game, it was a member-based project where you’d have to request access to the Capsule Dragons Club to play the short platforming stages in each area. Since it was an exclusive project, it was shortly abandoned, though if you want to play it, you can click “See Inside” and edit code on “Sprite1” to make it broadcast “message1” when you click it and remove the “if username equals” (or change that to be your own username). A friend was given access to Capsule Dragons Club, as this friend helped me on a few projects of my own and also expressed interest in this, so thanks for signing up! Though it was questionable for me to make a project that required you to request access with a Scratch account. Released in 2014. Note that another project called Rental Capsule Dragon Testing also released, though that was a tech demo to test two dragons with the same abilities and the effect of HP / attack / statistics.

4. Capsule Dragons Place

A place to get updates, printable Capsule Dragons / ziinos, and more Capsule Dragons related info! It’s all free, so check it out if you want. I think there was an updated version of it eventually though I’m not sure where it went. It’s sort of like the Capsule Dragons website before it was a website, and released in 2015 (correction, may have been available 2013 when Capsule Dragons launched).

5. Capsule Dragons Party

This game released in 2015 and got a few updates, though if you’re interested in a four player Capsule Dragons themed party game with a lot of playable characters, here it is – the party game with minigames that four players using one keyboard can play at once (online multiplayer not supported, but that would have been interesting to add). However, there are various game-breaking bugs that may make your party experience very strange at times and players can easily hack each other’s inputs by pressing buttons for each other, so, it may be best to play it as a single-player party game.

6. Capsule Dragons EX

An extra game to the main series that had a very different style of gameplay – a hack and slash Capsule Dragons game! Attack with close and long ranged attacks as you add more dragons to your party and level up, becoming stronger and progressing further into the game! The demo released in 2015 as well, a month after the final version of Capsule Dragons Party (or another similar time).

7. Capsule Dragons MMO 5.1

A clone of a project made by another Scratch user. Since this game only changed some sprites to be Capsule Dragons themed, and additionally break some features of the game, Capsule Dragons MMO was not a very well made game though it was based on a well made project.

8. Capsule Dragons Portal Playground

A tech demo using code from another project for the base physics. The idea was to experiment with giving the player two portals they could travel to in a 2D space, like a 2D version of a 3D puzzle platformer that uses this concept.

9. Capsule Dragons X

A small project that let you build your own Capsule Dragons game, using a completely different physics engine, scrolling level engine, and storing levels/playing levels as a feature. My first attempt at a level editor that could handle up to 300 objects total placed at a time.

10. Camp Capsule Dragons

Before Scratch had official support for mobile devices (unless you had a mobile browser compatible with Scratch, which was possible) this game was designed for touchscreen devices! It’s a bit like Capsule Dragons EXE village, though you can build floating islands and a camp that runs in real time, with time for the dragons to rest as well, building various structures and looking at a list of requests from your dragons. Also released 2015.

11. Capsule Dragons Soccer Smash v2.1

While this released in 2019, it was a new Capsule Dragons sidegame with a focus on being a sports battle game – what if you have to score goals by attacking a football/soccer ball, and you can attack the other player? It supported two player versus on the same computer and got updates for a while including new characters to play as. Can be played with touchscreen controls.

12. Capsule Dragons Super Dash v1.05

An infinite runner game focused on only using two buttons: jump and slide. Alike Capsule Dragons Soccer Smash, it released in 2019, and it supported touchscreen controls, though the touchscreen controls were a bit more intuitive to manage, as there wasn’t a hidden menu option you had to click to enable using a touchscreen. Also has a high score record system, whether you’re signed in or not. There are random messages that play when you get a game over, and there are about 10 levels of difficulty enabled by default though I’m not sure if there’s a way to clear this infinite runner… …maybe when the score just reaches infinity because it keeps multiplying based on how many levels you’ve cleared?

Cancelled Games:

Capsule Dragons Universe

This turned out to not really be cancelled, since I took the same concepts from it and used those concepts in a different way when working on Capsule Dragons 4… this was like the beta of Capsule Dragons 4 before the Capsule Dragons 4 demo.
The player can customize their dragon, equip various weapons with different mechanics, from melee to ranged to anything that was supported, though I quickly took down the demo since it wasn’t a finished product. It was last edited in 2015… It would also require ziino to play.

Capsule Dragons 4

Taking off from the end of Capsule Dragons 3, this was determined to be a game that would fix everything Capsule Dragons 3 didn’t finish doing, like somewhat randomized areas by randomizing a selection of parts of levels… …eventually, Capsule Dragons 4 had new mechanics like a backflip, skydive, and new limitations like being able to fly for a short amount of time, and more features like abilities called Specs that could be equipped. Although I took down the demo, the version of the game in development had a lot of features in it and it paused development two years ago.

Capsule Dragons 5 The Adventure You’ve Been Waiting 4

Unfortunately, I missed the deadline to release this game on April 1st, and I was working on it two years ago while it was going to release on April 1st, 2019, this project was mostly a variation on the Capsule Dragons 4 project and was meant to be an April Fool’s Day joke to release this unfinished game instead of a Capsule Dragons 4 demo.

Capsule Dragons Adventure

The most complete (and incomplete) project I’ve worked on outside of Scratch, and in the Unity engine instead ( www.unity.com ). It started development probably one year after the first Capsule Dragons game was released, and it was in development being worked on for at least three years over a lot of spare time, so it’s been something I want to get back to working on and improve, but I don’t know how to fix the game. Some of its new features were four player support, controller support, two attacks (fire claw and fireball), and powerups. Although there were less mechanics than Capsule Dragons 4, this was a really ambitious project and I required a lot of help from another of the website admins on the Capsule Dragons website during development. It’s not truly cancelled, but this game added a lot more content and I started to redesign every level eventually which is where development stopped. The series has come a long way and this was the chance to revive it, to give a new perspective and fix everything I didn’t like about the series, and add new things I wanted to add to the series, too. The addition of robot dragons, more robotic enemies, more obstacles and powerups (one obstacle that makes the player orbit around it in two dimensional space, some boost pads in both horizontal and vertical directions, and more) as well as having enemies move on specific routes (adding enemy AI) made it feel more complete… …but having incomplete levels, an overworld, resources that didn’t match a specific Capsule Dragons artstyle, made it the most unfinished game as well as the largest game I have worked on.

Anyway, I hope this was an enjoyable post about the Capsule Dragons series. Thanks for reading it!

random game stuff (with a few important notes, but you should check the link on the main page first if you read this already)

As an opinion-based blog post, it should not be read as a proper news source, as the requirements of professional journalism and an analytical approach are clearly lacking here.

However, I take a bit of time to discuss my own personal project, which is a game, and this blog is about me making games (it was supposed to be) so if you are interested in that maybe it counts as an update about game development, but the part about real-world news is not a proper update about the world.

October 19, 2020

Hello,

I haven’t updated this website in about four months, so I thought I might describe what I’ve been up to.

Real-world news is important to be conscious of right now, and the amount of political corruption and bias (more support for systematic oppression as well; companies have been exploiting their workers, disregarding human rights, and ignoring safety cautions that need to be present during the pandemic, some people have gone against social justice movements and are against activism…) that has been going on is not at all acceptable. The pandemic is also going on, so it’s important to be aware of what’s going on. On terms of good news, there has been a lot more support for social justice/racial equity movements like Black Lives Matter, recognition and awareness about climate change, LGBTQ+ movements, and in general, it looks like this is still a turning point to help change the future for better! I know it might not seem like awareness of what’s going on is related to game development, but, this is important – not random notes I make about my cancelled games. Some of this was discussed in a post I made four months ago, but it’s all still relevant. Please note that not every topic inside of activism was covered, because I am still learning about social justice movements in my free time, and I still need to find examples of movements for religious equality, economic equity, and climate change awareness/movements in science as well.

For Capsule Dragons website news, I thought I might discuss some information on an upcoming project.

I’ve been working on that one RPG that I was going to announce, and it’s had about a year of development. Not working on it once every day, but more like randomly in my free time. The new game I’m making is called “Infidemia”, and it’s a RPG about a game world where your choices affect everything, along with the six students, hearts, coffee, a robot, some spoilers here and there, and more that I have yet to announce.

Here’s an estimate on how much of the game is ready:

CHAPTER 1

–> Introduction sequence (First Day)

–> First 6 playable characters (Main characters)

–> Secondary characters around the school (faculty, staff)

–> First dungeon is complete, second dungeon’s a bit rough but it’s getting there

–> First two longer dream sequence events in the story (sounds strange out of context)

–> Introduction of one of the primary gameplay mechanics, still have to bugfix it though.

–> Fixed a lot of random bugs in the game, mostly from eventing issues. (Character walks to a place but can’t move, which freezes the game, or battle dialogue is swapped out with another fight) It’s still not in a playable demo state just because of the amount of bugs.

–> …Have some plans as to what will happen next (the story was about 30% planned out before I continued development a month or two ago)

MAPS

–> The first city you go to, Seyith, is mostly done on terms of its downtown area. The high school, first dungeon, player’s house, and the main shop are all complete. The city’s connecting paths are present but might need some work, as well as one hidden area and one area that was used a while ago but hasn’t been updated.

COMBAT

–> Custom damage number font was completed some time ago

–> Primary battle mechanics are present, but very broken (needs a lot of work)

–> Timed attack system not yet implemented but very much considered

–> Most random encounters are playable (not crashing the game) but dialogue is usually broken

–> All party members are fully playable, and can also use items and equip gear, as well as use standard attacks

–> Team attacks (combo attacks) are implemented but will need balancing

COFFEE TIME

–> Conversation simulator minigame has a tutorial but doesn’t have scenarios.

CHARACTERS

–> All 7 playable characters have been planned, 6 of them are playable in the prototype demo, and those same characters also have character designs that were done last year/this year and haven’t changed much, but could still change – so, main characters are almost done. Each character has a unique name, appearance, and background, as well. I hope players enjoy learning about the stories of the game’s protagonists.

–> The first character you play as is 100% playable and has the outfit variation(s) you can use for story events (outfit variations might be removed though) but for now I intend to add outfit variations to the rest of the characters as well.

–> Supporting cast of characters needs work but is still present. Not all non playable characters live by their own schedules yet in the game but that will be added once I get more of the story done.

–> Representing all characters well has been a goal, and also including a more diverse cast of characters and protagonists, as well, compared to my previous projects. If there are any issues with representing characters or underrepresentation, please tell me how I can improve.

–> There might be a hidden boss fight

GAMEPLAY

–> Time system is functional

–> Combat is glitchy but present

–> Coffee time has not been implemented

–> Not playable enough for a demo yet, but if it’s not too buggy I’ll release a demo or trailer soon

Now as for what the game’s about, that’s mostly a secret. It’s an unconventional RPG, so certain events and mechanics are totally optional, and I’m going for a different approach. The heroes of the game are high school students determined to fight against the systematic oppression in their society and world, using unconventional approaches to their quest sometimes in order to do this. It might be the first RPG I’m working on that I announce more details on, and for now there isn’t anything finalized like whether this game is kid-friendly or not, its age rating, when it will be out, how much it will cost, what engine I’ll use, what drawing application I’ll use, what the logo will look like, or the name “Infidemia”, as well.

Since I’m working on this game by myself, I don’t anticipate reaching out to other independent game developers or companies, and I’m the only one playtesting it so far, so, making a demo with a feedback forum might be useful. If there’s anything in the game that’s an issue (I am open to feedback!) please comment, but, please make sure your comment is specific, and if you’re describing a bug, describe as many steps as you can before that bug happened, or sending me a copy of your save file might be able to help (though I’m not sure if that will). I’m working on this game by myself and I can handle feedback requests about anything that needs changed – typo in dialogue? Bug? Adding another non playable character? I will not respond to feedback directly, but, if you see a change in a future version of the game, it’s likely your feedback was considered during development.

On terms of overall development, it’s been a much harder game to make than any of my previous projects. I have to account for multiple dialogue choice options (how the player reacts), account for changes in the game world, the player’s choices, and the fact the game is played in somewhat real time (while you’re playing, time passes, but while you’re not playing, time is frozen).

It sounds like a lot to handle, and it is, but, I’m using a game engine that I think will be able to handle all of this, and currently have been able to make a lot more progress.

Before, I remade the introduction to the game using about three to four different approaches.

Then, I remade a few dungeons, and then decided to just redo all of the game (but not the maps, characters, or main story – scenario events as part of story were changed, though).

It’s still very early in development, and I have no idea when the game will be done. Unless I become a time traveler, you can expect “Infidemia” to release before the end of time.

…This is the first time I’ve mentioned all these details, though none of this is finalized. I have a better idea of where I’m going with the project and how long it will take, but I will not share my estimates on that yet because… my estimates are usually inaccurate and don’t factor everything into account.

It’s a much larger game than I expect to be working on, but, I’m determined to do quality work, and if I only explain half of the story but find a way to end it well, I’ll release it. If I find a way to explain all of the story and end up spending a lot more time on the game, I’ll release it later, but if it gets to be too long… I’ll have to rethink my plans.

Capsule Dragons Message – June 4, 2020

Hello, Capsule Dragons site readers.

In this challenging time, many issues have been going on, and now is the time to recognize important issues going on with civil rights and racial inequality.

No matter where you may be reading this site from, or what perspective you have, everyone can believe in justice and equality. It is not the time to be ignorant and only glance over current events without acknowledging the suffering many communities are facing as a result of the continued discrimination and harassment that are continuing racism.

Many communities have been faced with this continued inequality, and in recent events, African-American communities have also continued to face injustices that need to stop – now is the time to speak for civil rights, again. Many people are harmed by problems that are sometimes discussed, but never resolved – discrimination continues, hate crimes continue, but we must become aware of this, and spread that awareness.

Studying some of America’s history, it has continued to struggle with giving all equal rights – civil rights, racial equality, gender equality, are all relevant today. While progress towards civil rights has been made, it needs change. And today is a potential turning point.

This goes not just for the country where the Capsule Dragons site is updated, but also for the whole world. This is a time for international support of recognizing communities and minority groups, as well as working towards a better future where everyone may have liberty and justice.

I have noticed fellow games companies and prominent figures speaking out against the recent events with racial inequality, such as the prejudiced brutality that resulted in George Floyd’s death. I pledge my support to a future where everyone may live in peace, and equality.

We are all human – and diversity should be appreciated, not feared. The impressive diversity and culture of humanity can be seen in all; no matter any trait, everyone must be appreciated.

This may sound like a message given to the heroes of the world in a role-playing game, a call to action where everyone must come together, unite, for justice – and I hope as many people as possible will hear this. Whatever your situation may be, you can still believe in justice, equality, and peace.

As some of you may have read a while back, the Capsule Dragons website honored Martin Luther King Jr. on MLK Day, who was an incredible civil rights leader.

Please know that I strive for making games that everyone may enjoy, and that I also respect those who have faced adversity and inequality.

I would like to update some news on my own games also, but for now, we – everyone – must recognize the ongoing struggles in the real world, and find a resolution to unnecessary suffering many face. This goes for the ongoing issues with inequality, in all its aspects – racial inequality, gender inequality, religious inequality, are all parts of ongoing relevant civil rights issues, therefore we must avoid history repeating itself and change it for a future where everyone may live together in a world that respects humanity, its diversity, and its ongoing struggles.

I may not be updating the site for a while, though until then, please know that many people alike me are supporting an equal (and equitable – as there are issues with inequity) future.

Thank you.

-ZoruaAl

Remember that RPG that’s going to get announced?

Some updates! No other game has its name so far! A release date will not be announced until it’s finally time! I’m working on adding one more mechanic to the game and then that should be it for the main system of how things work. (Vague enough, hopefully). I don’t know about a lot of details, like if I’ll keep the game singleplayer, what the age rating will be for my game or the demo… but, a lot of work has been done these past, umm… it’s March 2020 now… so, past 7 months?? I don’t know, but it’s taken a long time to make the prototype! (The prototype I find promising as I’ve been able to add a lot of things like story and mechanics in). Feedback on this project will be essential to guide its direction. I’m very enthusiastic about where it’s headed, and I’m working my best on this – not holding any secret game development technique back (this time).

“what about that RPG you finished”

I finished that and it’s going through the third revision process. After that, it should be ready for release, though this is one of the rare times I’ve discussed it here -_-

The third revision process involves making an OST for the game. As someone who doesn’t compose music often it’s a bit harder than expected, but my new project (almost called it by its name there! whoops) is getting an entirely original soundtrack (with some songs re-used from Super Speedy Laser Cats, but not many. Only one or two from that).

Anyway, my new RPG (not the one I finished) is going strong into this year – now it’s March and the game’s still on the first… part, I guess – it’s going to be unlike anything I’ve made before, so if you like all those platformer games I’ve been making (or if you don’t like them, that’s ok too – I have a new platformer project in mind that may be more… interesting) then look forward to something new. However, this game is still in a super rough state right now – rough rough draft. That means it’s going to be buggy and glitchy and may even mess up save data sometimes, so I’ll need a lot of feedback to improve it. I don’t expect the first edition to be perfect, but I think with some improvement it can at least become how I want it to be.

For now read the “questions I ask myself before publishing a game”:

Platforms the game will be on?

Right now, I could say “computer” because computational devices are most often used to develop video games. However, for consoles or PCs or laptops or phones I cannot promise anything. I am interested in console development and believe it is a desirable field of interest as a game developer.

Will the game come out?

Probably, but not soon. It will come out when it’s finally time for it to awaken (tried to make it sound cool but it sounded better in my head)

What’s the game’s name?

I cannot currently share that information due to a new policy of not revealing anything until it’s finalized (or has the label “in development” on it).

What’s the game about?

I’ll discuss what it’s about when it’s time to reveal a trailer or screenshots or something.

What can I expect?

You can’t expect much from this game… yet – roughly twenty five minutes of gameplay are confirmed so far. A lot of time has been spent planning and working out story details.

Where does the game take place? When?

That’s a secret

Who’s working on the game?

The site admin – as a one person team I will reach out to get help from more people I can easily request help on this project from. They will be credited in some way.

Is it related to Capsule Dragons?

No, but an item is a “capsule dragon”, which will not appear until later in the game.

How many players?

1

Is the game open source? Can I copy materials from it? Can I…

Licensing is a tricky process and this game is my own work. I will update this part of the questions when I get a response about licensing a game or copyright.

Getting ready for a reveal of my new indie RPG. Unlike my previous RPG I made (but didn’t publish) this one may eventually end up getting a full release date, trailer, announcement, name, etc. However, due to ongoing technical difficulties in development, the game’s reveal will be delayed about two months or more from its original date. Updates will be posted here when applicable, but for now I’m busy fixing up the game. The game’s original soundtrack is going along alright, but it’s… not decent enough to publish yet… so, for any updates on what kind of music you can expect to see in this new RPG. I hope to get a demo released officially (that’s right, in an actual game storefront someday!) with public beta access about a year or two after the demo’s release, however plans constantly change and there may not be a demo or beta or even a finished game within that time. The release date for this game is about fifty years after the game takes place, which is the temporary release date for now but that may change. Please do keep in mind trademark filing may be necessary at some point and a name reveal will not happen until I find out that my game’s name can be approved as a suitable option… until then there’s a lot of work that needs to be done. This is the second (technically, third) role playing game I will be working on that will eventually be fully finished. The first RPG I made will not be released publicly due to development issues and quality control issues, but the second one (the one I made before this one, anyway) may be referenced in this new RPG I will be making. In my roughly three years of experience making role playing games please keep your expectations very low for the demo. Those of you with higher expectations, do not expect the game to be as great as the vagueness makes it sound. I believe with enough time, effort, and revision I may end up publishing this game, but I will not make any official announcements until then. A reveal of the demo may happen within ? to ? years.

-capsuledragons.com site admin

It appears to be February soon?? Well I guess it’s time for another news update. Wait, isn’t it February? Hmm… even I do not know. Anyway

Capsule Dragons game development is on a pause for a while – I do want to work on platformer games again, but I’m working on a very big RPG project that I happen to also be doing music (and a chance to do art for) as well as the overall story and character abilities etc. Right now most of the game is planned out, and it’s taken me a bit longer than a few months to get about thirty minutes of gameplay done. I still can’t talk much about this game in terms of plot, gameplay, or what the title is (Yes, I do have a temporary title… but, I can’t reveal that yet) as it’s all in development and doesn’t have an official page up for it yet – remember, it won’t get one until a long time, maybe the year the game takes place in (if it takes place in the future or past or whatever). I have a lot of work done on characters, plot, some music and the overall prototype is coming along well. A lot of progress, really – but it’s only me working on this game so don’t expect a demo to just show up soon or anything. Again, releasing demos takes a while as even though I may have a demo ready to play, it’s not going to be able to be played until I find a way to make it playable. Reputable online game storefronts appear to be an option, but are rather expensive for releasing a demo of a game, don’t you think? The previous RPG I was working on is indeed finished, but will probably not be published because even with a year’s worth of revisions it’s not going to be a game many people would enjoy. The new RPG I’m working on probably won’t get published either, but has a lot more “quality of life” improvements – and game mechanics. I would like to go in-depth about how the game works and who the characters are and what the game actually is, but I probably will only do that when the game’s ready to get feedback about it. Right now there’s not enough content for me to release a demo and ask “So, players, what do you think? How can I improve this game?”. In game development I would like to get some feedback, so the official feedback comments section may open up on this very site Capsule Dragons, but, that will also take a lot of work and I do not have an estimated time amount for when things will be ready. Keep in mind the less this site gets updated the more I am working on games – and, that good games take a while to develop. As of right now I do not know how much of my RPG (role-playing game) I would say is completed, but the introduction and first major story event have been finished. That may sound like enough for a demo, but considering the scale of the game and the fact that everything about it is subject to change, I will not update any details on it until then.

happy new year, it’s 2020 ! well it’s the next decade, which means Capsule Dragons has been around in sometime 2010s to now 2020 – even if it’s not 2020 yet it will be soon… what will happen in 2020? (how many times did I type 2020 here? 20/20 times) I don’t know what will happen but hopefully Capsule Dragons HD will get more updates. If I add them, that is. I will soon… in 2020!!

UPDATE: CAPSULE DRAGONS HD BETA NOW LIVE!! go play it and tell me anything you want changed at https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/349598986/

November 30 2019:

ok that s it time to release public beta of capsule dragons hd. it doesnt have music, but, i can add that later

Capsule Dragons series is now 6 years old… well that’s a long time (about half of that was the development of a cancelled Capsule Dragons game…)

so now to celebrate i announce that Capsule Dragons HD (on scratch.mit.edu) does indeed retain its original release date sometime 2021. If I somehow get a lot of work done on other projects like the role playing game I’ve been talking about, then it might see a release date closer to quarter 2 of 2020. However, Capsule Dragons HD has been a very… tedious project originally, and has most the code done. I’ll upload screenshots of the development build if I have time

Some newer updates (November 17 2019)

–I’ve been writing a lot of game reviews recently. I’ll be posting them to the website soon. As a game developer, you can expect honest game reviews from someone like me! Well, assuming that I know what I’m talking about. It’s only my first try at game reviews, so don’t expect anything noteworthy yet.

–The revision process for the other RPG is still 80%. I have a lot of music I’ve already made that would fit the game, I believe, so I’ll be finding a way to import them soon.

Some new updates (October 24 2019)

–Been working a lot recently on role-playing games I’m developing. I can’t say much about them right now, but the one that I worked on for three years is going strong through the revision process and beyond. The revision process is 80% complete, more like 60% complete, but will include custom music (eventually I’ll compose more music) more custom NPCs (Non playable characters) and limiting the scope of the project to the right amount of content. I’m also working on another role-playing game, which I’m taking a break from as it is probably the hardest project I have worked on (besides Capsule Dragons Adventure). A lot has happened with game development, music development and more recently so I’d like to get out more news faster, but, I might be working on a new monster-collecting game in Scratch soon. (or C#, haven’t decided yet).

–Also busy composing more music for a few games, that’s interesting, but, I don’t have any of the official music released anywhere yet (I also don’t have a copyright for my music yet, at least this game’s music) and that’s something. I don’t know a lot as a musician but I find music a small hobby of mine that might be used to make better Capsule Dragons music in the future. Character themes for my role playing game are something I’ve considered.

–Capsule Dragons Tower is still canceled. I have no plans to bring it back, but you might see concepts from it as a whole game mode someday.

Capsule Dragons HD development will eventually continue. sorry for the delay in updates. i have been busy working on a role playing game that cannot currently be discussed here. However, I would like to show off the AI that can play Ultra Battles Countered as Red and win most battles. Eventually. It’s a work in progress but can beat me as meta characters. -ZoruaAl (October 7 2019)

Capsule Dragons Adventure is 5 years in development! After looking through some old concept art and some papers about the game, I’ve remembered I started working on the project one June 24th long ago. Hopefully all you keeping up with the Capsule Dragons website have played the demo! There’s a free demo on this website… if you can find it. Think of it like a scavenger hunt.

Anyway, it’s the end of the month so I need to post new updates again. If you go to the left side of the website, you should be able to read “ZoruaAl on posts” or whatever news I post to this website to keep up with development news. As of right now, Ultra Battles Countered is fully playable (go check it out! http://capsuledragons.com/ultrabattlesgame/ ). A lot of work on Ultra Battles Countered has been done, so Super Speedy Laser Cats will be the next game to get updates, and then Capsule Dragons HD. I’m still working on these indie games! Oh, and, make sure to keep an eye out on updates… the early access for Super Speedy Laser Cats is coming soon!!

What is the game? Go read the “Ultra Battles” section of the Capsule Dragons website.

Another development update, multiple days in a row??!! update: Yes I know I announced I was working on an RPG that was already some 3 long years in development. A demo and a place to comment about the game will both be available for free here soon. Very soon. (soon)

Development update 3 (final one for May 2019): (Near time of May 28): Well, this RPG is coming along slowly, for the span of about 3 years. Maybe more. I’ve been polishing up a few extra things to get that demo running great! Oh, and the demo? Can’t release a demo yet, as I am still playtesting through the whole game. The demo is coming very soon, possibly June! (soon and June rhyme, so that worked out!). What about Capsule Dragons?? Is this even a Capsule Dragons RPG?? No, this is not a Capsule Dragons RPG (-_-). This is instead unrelated to Capsule Dragons, although there will be a reference or two to the series, which is a RPG with turn-based actions and a unique battle system. As of now no more details can be said, because almost everything is subject to change. For Capsule Dragons news, I guess I can say that Capsule Dragons HD just needs more music. That’s pretty much it. Capsule Dragons HD still comes out early 2020, so check back… often! Wow, I should get back to work on my RPG already, shouldn’t I? Until next time!

Development update 2: Been working on an RPG for a long time. It’s coming out soon. More details to be given later, maybe with a demo. If there’s a demo, you’ll be able to send feedback directly to me so I can review the game. I can’t say anything else about this game, other than that it’s being reviewed. Update: Demo will be ready soon, but there’s no finalized release date. From the last few weeks to today, May 25/26, I’ve been constantly revising the game and getting the demo ready. This RPG has taken a lot of effort and time… I hope anyone playing the demo will give feedback on the feedback forms that will appear! (Note: Demo not out yet. Coming soon!)

The news below about “Capsule Dragons Tower” is of a cancelled game. Capsule Dragons Tower has been cancelled due to development problems with the platforming mechanics.

NEW GAME INCOMING! NEW GAME INCOMING!

New month, new arcade game. The Capsule Dragons Arcade expands with another new game (more info to be revealed soon), temporarily titled Capsule Dragons Tower, launching Summer 2019. Development has just begun.

For those long-time Capsule Dragons fans (if there are fans, thanks for being patient) they will have remembered Capsule Dragons Universe. For those of you who do not remember or know, Capsule Dragons Universe was a cancelled prototype of a new Capsule Dragons game, where the player had twenty different weapons to run, jump, and attack with through exploring single-screen levels.

This concept of different weapons leads me to conclude to a new, arcade-style game. In Capsule Dragons Tower, the player explores an infinitely-high tower filled with enemies and randomly-generated single-screen levels. Every enemy can instantly defeat your player… but luckily, every five levels (one floor) you go through, you gain a different (or if lucky, the same) weapon to use to progress through the tower. Eventually, the player will encounter harder enemies with more health. The player can only get attacked twice before returning to the start, so see how far you can get and try to get a world high score!

The beta’s release will be Early Summer 2019, and the game comes out Summer 2019. Now, whatever happened to Capsule Dragons HD, I wonder?

Capsule Dragons Tower launches Summer 2019 on www.scratch.mit.edu/users/ZoruaAl , so check on my account page for any updates (besides here, the official Capsule Dragons website!).

Good day to all you people out there,

ZoruaAl

Remember that battle game with a demo uploaded here, called “Super Speedy Laser Cats”? This is what’s being worked on right now, while Capsule Dragons HD is a side project. Capsule Dragons HD is so close to being done, but it still needs a lot of testing, music and sounds, and maybe animation. This quick development update is mostly to say that Super Speedy Laser Cats, a four-player battle platformer game, without a release date, is being worked on now while Capsule Dragons HD is being finished.  Super Speedy Laser Cats is getting bugfixes, gameplay balance updates (?) and more! Trying not to add too much content, the game is going well, however, it is not the time to announce a release date yet because the game is not close to completion.

That means Capsule Dragons HD’s release date of early 2020 has been moved to early 2021, which is from delays being with the game not being done yet. There are still quite a few music tracks left to make…

Right now for Capsule Dragons HD there are some bugs where the player goes into a new Chapter/section of the game and the boss there doesn’t say the right thing for that area.  Update: bug fixed! The game is looking nice (HD) in vector graphics.

Oh, and some more information on Capsule Dragons Adventure– this project is just not being worked on right now. There are a lot of things going on with Capsule Dragons HD and Super Speedy Laser Cats, so Capsule Dragons Adventure will not have a release date yet or any new information– most of the game is being redone, including sprites, levels, music, and more. If it’s going to be a good game, it needs to be polished up and have enough content, but not too many features, for the player to enjoy. It’s a large-scale project being mostly redone, so if a release date were announced, that would have to get pushed back even further than Capsule Dragons HD’s release date, meaning there’s no specified time when the game will be ready.

Capsule Dragons Super Dash is available to play on the Capsule Dragons website! It’s an infinite runner where you have to dodge stuff.

play Capsule Dragons Soccer Smash on your phone, tablet, or computer at https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/282843417/

play Capsule Dragons Super Dash on your phone, tablet, or computer here!

Some news about Super Speedy Laser Cats: There will be new ‘battle rules’ that you can use to customize gameplay– not all of them are finalized, so I can’t share that information –but they might be things like adjusting how often powerups spawn, how much damage each cat takes, etc. The project is going well, and Capsule Dragons HD keeps getting new additions as well.

Capsule Dragons HD, on Scratch, comes out Early 2021. A finalized release date should be ready in early 2020, with the temporary release date (listed) as Early 2021. Look forward to more features, a score tracker, and more! Can you get the world high score? (When it comes out of course… busy with Super Speedy Laser Cats)

Go check out the Capsule Dragons HD tab on the webpage- it got updated as of today! (January 2019)

Working on a new project:

It’s a multiplayer battle game you can download the demo for, here! Look forward to more news on it later, maybe more demos. Full game doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s coming along very well. Updates about it are at the top of this page.

Special code to play as Icey (In Capsule Dragons HD/Demo): Shiny1

More special codes coming soon!!

Thank you.

Capsule Dragons HD public beta

hello there capsule dragons fans and people who read this site

i am working on a big new project Capsule Dragons HD. last year I released a demo, then worked on the game a ton.

here’s the public beta. it’s a beta test, which means its going to have loads of glitches and problems, so feel free to give feedback at this game here https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/349598986/ and make sure to play it if you’re interested. it’s a platforming game but the physics work this time unlike the original game. it also has fancy graphics and stuff. even lighting and all that.

ok, maybe not lighting. but… it still has a lot of content

oh… and also here free code for Capsule Dragons HD: PromoDragon020 to play as Dark Dragon, the coolest villain / not really a villain in Capsule Dragons history (and also, the one who was supposed to have better boss fight music but didn’t).

stay safe be kind have fun

End-of-Month Updates (June 2019)

Well, happy uh, 5 or 6 years of Capsule Dragons Adventure being worked on (yay?)! It was either June 24 or June 25 when Capsule Dragons Adventure was worked on, and now, it’s gotten pretty far, but I’ve been working on other things besides it- like, well, Ultra Battles Countered.

This month has been all about Ultra Battles Countered– from bug fixes to air dashing to each character having four attacks, the game is becoming a “full fledged” fighting game on a platform called Scratch (by MIT labs and such) that you can play either on my website or Scratch: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/298607168/ or https://www.capsuledragons.com/ultrabattlesgame/

Ultra Battles Countered is a fighting game inspired by a classic fighting game, complete with damage percentages and rule settings like adding falling items onto the game level. There are now 12 fully working characters in Ultra Battles Countered, and most of them are balanced– for instance, Phil (a guest character) has a low jump height but can use an attack that lets him infinitely jump, while Red is a balanced fighter who can move across the level easily. (Red, from Capsule Dragons, has some moves from Capsule Dragons Adventure, like a fire claw and a fireball breath!)

The title screen has also gone through a few iterations this month… this is the latest one.

While Ultra Battles Countered is a full fighting game, originally just a project I was working on as a side-project, I’ve made it a top priority this month. For fans of Ultra Battles Countered or those who like Super Speedy Laser Cats, or just… anyone who likes games, I’ll be working on Super Speedy Laser Cats again- in the near future! Hopefully there will be an early access program for it on a legit gaming store online, where beta testers will be able to directly send me feedback. Speaking of laser cats, there’s an orange Laser Cat as a playable character in Ultra Battles (what? no way!!) who focuses entirely on quickly moving across the level.

Ultra Battles Countered has characters of many styles, so you can choose ranged, melee, or technical characters to play as. (And, of course, one third of the characters are Capsule Dragons…)

For RPG fans, I’ve finished the final touches on my role playing game, however, there still need to be a few things implemented before it’s ready for a full release, so there’s no release date yet! After all, it should be a quality game before it’s released. What is the RPG? I can’t say what this new game is about, except for its quirkiness and traditional combat system.

Have fun and stay safe,

ZoruaAl
